I received word last week regarding my 10 year high school reunion coming up this fall. I’m sure you can practically hear my “Are you serious, it’s been TEN FREAKIN YEARS ALREADY?!” – but alas it seems it has indeed. And thus the spark that is bringing you this week’s Music Snack was born.

I graduated high school in McAllen, Texas [Memorial HS - Go Mustangs!] which is located in the Rio Grande Valley [RGV], where my house was exactly 10 minutes from the US / Mexico border. *Did I ever tell you I used to live 10 minutes north of Mexico, before? On the other side of the river (the border) sat Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. That’s where my dad worked in what’s called a Maquiladora – a US factory set up in a foreign country – for nearly 3 1/2 years. <– the reason I moved down there.

Long story short – the years I lived in McAllen were some of the best years of my life. I was living in a completely different environment from the endless string of small, country towns I’d lived in before, eating foods I had never really tasted until I had them fresh and home made, immersed in a culture that was so foreign to me but soon grew very dear to my heart. I felt at home there – a different kind of home – but home, non the less. This is also where I made some of my closest and dearest friends [my SS, of course!], where I pushed the line more than one time, where I essentially found my two feet to stand on, and …… where I eagerly threw myself into the world of Latin Music and Dancing ….. and never looked back!

So today I’m sending you a little piece of my high school history. There’s so many crazy thoughts that come to my mind for this song. But regardless, there’s two things that always happen when I think of or hear this song …. that infamous smirk appears on my face and my body begins to sway.

    Ay está muy caliente!

Well if that doesn’t get you up and movin on this Wednesday mornin [or afternoon, or evening] then I don’t know what will!

Thanks for taking a trip down memory lane with me. Hope your week is a Magical one.

    :: muchos besos a mis amores ::

You can’t argue Beyoncé has mad skills.

Some of my favorite songs were the first ones she put out as a solo artist.

    Like this one.

(which was a musical staple of my Sophomore year of college)

Sending you a morning laugh with my favorite scene from the movie Hitch.

Is it bad I’ve given my number to a guy solely because he busted out the Q-Tip on the dance floor?

    True story.

If my birthday hadn’t been last week, it’s a safe bet to say someone in my office would have knocked me across the parking lot …. for having this song on repeat …. for 2 1/2 days straight …. non-stop.

And for occasionally dancing in my seat – jersey style.

Now it’s your turn to Beat the Beat Up with the Jersey Shore video of Enrique Iglesias’s :: I Like It

I don’t care what you say, I’m a fist pumping, hair poofing, gorilla juice-head loving, fan.

[ snooks, jwoww & vinny are my favs ]

Thanks to everyone at my office who didn’t knock me out of my seat for getting this song stuck in your heads last week. Deep down, I really think they all like[d] it.

Just a few things I’m Thankful for today …

    • The beautiful full moon that’s out this week.
    • Being in Mississippi, surrounded by some of my favorite people for my dear friends’ wedding.
    • Laughing at wonderful stories floating around in the spirit of Thanksgiving & Wedding celebrations.
    • How many great memories this song brings back.
    • And of course, dancing in the moonlight.
