    Take the time to relax.
    Take the time to breathe.
    Take the time to work.
    Take the time to play.
    Take the time to work.
    Take the time to think.
    Take the time to dance.
    Take the time to plan.
    Take the time to prepare.
    Take the time for family.
    Take the time for yourself.

So many things to remember. Time is split between them all. But how about this one:

Take the time to get sidetracked.

It happens for a reason. The email your friend just sent while you were working on a big work proposal. The charming road side store on your way out of town. The urge to suddenly stop what you’re doing and run to the coffee shop. The site link you happened to notice. The phone call just as you settle into bed for the night. The curiosity about the crowd across the way. It happens for a reason.

Don’t fight it. Not everything need be planned to fit perfectly in time allotted. It’s not the enemy unless you insist it be. If you let it, it can actually be quite the opposite. Rather glorious.

Take the time to get sidetracked.

Do it now. Do it tomorrow. Do it at least 2 times a day. If you insist on putting some sort of constraint on it, allow yourself 13 minutes to get sidetracked up to 2 times a day if the urge strikes. (It’s ok – I think the other 1,414 minutes of your day won’t mind.)

Don’t search for a reason to be sidetracked. Doesn’t work that way. Just make sure you don’t block it when it appears. Remember, it happens for a reason. And besides, that’s when the good stuff happens.

    That stuff called Serendipity.

I’m a big fan of mason jars. Big fan. Always have been ever since watching my mother during seasonal canning sessions (Granted, the pressure cooker used to scare the crap out of me but I suspect that had a lot to do with my big brother – ahemm, who I won’t mention by name but you know which one you are – telling me that the house would blow up if I walked into the kitchen when it was on the stove.) Regardless, my love for the little jars started at an early age.

To this day you can often find me drinking from a mason jar. Something about ‘em just seems to make whatever it is inside of it taste better. Ice water tastes better from a mason jar. Sweet tea is irreplaceable when served from a mason jar. And yes – the alcohol and beer stays cool too when you’re drinking it from a mason jar.

Do yourself a favor this week….go get a mason jar. They have them at Walmart and most grocery stores. You can get a dozen for less than you would normally pay for half a dozen “fancier” glasses. Not sure what you would do with a dozen mason jars? Well, they hold more than liquids you know. Pens, pencils, flowers, odds and ends – there’s not a lot you can’t put in a mason jar. I’ve used them as gift boxes and table decorations. I even stuffed one with old costume jewelry as a decoration.

Bring a slice of the country to your house. A touch of rustic goes with anything, you know…

    Ah..le jardin secret..how I cherish thee so.

The Secret Garden can be her state of mind or a fantasy place she can visit when she daydreams. – French Women Don’t Sleep Alone

Similar to the modern day Sex and the City SSB – secret single behavior – your le jardin secret [secret garden] is a place you go to escape reality for a bit.  A certain activity you take great pleasure in doing when others may find you to be absolutely ridiculous. More than a hobby, much less than an alter ego, we all have a le jardin secret whether we realize it or not, although most of us are quite aware and look forward to the moments when we can take pure delight, dancing through our garden {for lack of a better metaphor} with out a care in the world.  A time to recharge and emerge refreshed, you must answer to no one with no obligations to justify your behavior. Even if it’s merely a memory that remains a mystery to everyone else but you, that in itself is where the delight can be found.

When is the last time you paid a visit to your le jardin secret? Why not make that visit sometime soon? But make sure not to tell anyone, as it wouldn’t very much well be le secret anymore, now would it…
