    Ah..le jardin secret..how I cherish thee so.

The Secret Garden can be her state of mind or a fantasy place she can visit when she daydreams. – French Women Don’t Sleep Alone

Similar to the modern day Sex and the City SSB – secret single behavior – your le jardin secret [secret garden] is a place you go to escape reality for a bit.  A certain activity you take great pleasure in doing when others may find you to be absolutely ridiculous. More than a hobby, much less than an alter ego, we all have a le jardin secret whether we realize it or not, although most of us are quite aware and look forward to the moments when we can take pure delight, dancing through our garden {for lack of a better metaphor} with out a care in the world.  A time to recharge and emerge refreshed, you must answer to no one with no obligations to justify your behavior. Even if it’s merely a memory that remains a mystery to everyone else but you, that in itself is where the delight can be found.

When is the last time you paid a visit to your le jardin secret? Why not make that visit sometime soon? But make sure not to tell anyone, as it wouldn’t very much well be le secret anymore, now would it…

It happens to the best of us. We get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the every day life and sometimes forget to take a little time out. I’m all about taking those breaks. (ok sometimes I may take a few too many) But today, right now -- and maybe again later on today or tonight, you can take a little time out for yourself. And do a little Slow Dance….with the help of John Legend.

(if you have trouble viewing this video, please click here)

And don’t you worry if there’s no one to dance with you right now (again, you can always take another time out later). Honestly, as I’m typing this, I’m listening to it via head phones and am not ashamed to be visibly swaying in my chair, on a Saturday afternoon, in the middle of a busy coffee shop.  ;)

    But that’s ok…because let’s not forget….it’s

Whew – what a week here at The Sassy Steel Magnolia! It’s almost time to take a break for the Holidays and cozy up with a good book for a little R & R. (or at least here’s hoping there’s time for that)

Here’s the deal – Christmas is a week away. Santa’s already made his list and checked it twice. You’re either on it or you’re not, so why not indulge in a little guilty pleasure this Holiday Season? And I’m not talkin about fudge squares and sugar cookies. I’m talkin about The Sassy Steel Magnolia’s Book of the Month:

Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susanne

    Valley of the Dolls

That’s right ladies, take a little trip this  season with the girls – Anne, Neely & Jennifer – a trip down their spiral staircase using their Dolls as banisters.

Anne, Neely and Jennifer - Valley of the Dolls

Most of the book is said to be based on the author’s experiences and observations in young Hollywood circa the early 1940’s.  Judging by the authenticity of the writing-the details of her stories, I’d say that sounds about right. Susanne’s ability to build up each character’s individual fame all while developing the entire book’s scandalous and seductive story line is intoxicatingly addictive in every sense of the phrase.

This book truly is a guilty pleasure reading for this Sassy Steel Magnolia – way better than any daytime soap or romance novel. Don’t be thrown off by the size of the book, you’ll zip through the pages in no time – it’s that enticing. Pick it up now and you won’t be able to put it down before New Year’s.

    Season’s Greetings ♥ Jennie B.
